It might seem early to be talking about holiday gifts, but if you’re like me, you take the partial DIY approach to holiday gift giving (aka: buy a few, make a few!) Making gifts by hand can take a while, so I’m getting a jump on my DIY holiday gift projects now.
In case you need some DIY inspiration, check out this roundup of 10 projects that would make perfect holiday gifts!
Above – who doesn’t love to receive an edible gift? Learn all about the art of pickling and preserving. Back when I worked at an indie bookstore, Wild Fermentation was super popular, and would be a great place to start. While you’re at it, you can use your homemade treats to create a gift box or gift basket, and add a Cotton & Flax tea towel, napkins, or coasters to complete the set!
Dip dyed scarves. I really like Jacquard Procion Dyes for dying silk scarves, and I’ve had success with their simple to use iDye packets as well.
The classic cuffed hat or a simple blanket are perfect projects for knitters.
Easy sewing projects from The Purl Bee continue to be my favorite, like this dopp kit or these tote bags. I’m thinking about using some of my Arroyo fabric to sew both of these projects for holiday gifts this year.
Roll your own beautiful beeswax candles — Erin Boyle has a simple tutorial. Combine these with some of our cloth napkins for a beautiful holiday table.
Homemade coffee toffee – or try a healthier treat from Matchbox Kitchen. These gifts are even sweeter when they’re wrapped furoshiki-style in one of our tea towels!
Potted houseplants are always a great gift, especially when you make the vessel yourself, like these hypertufa pots made using milk cartons. You can always go the semi-handmade route – planting some succulents in a vintage ceramic pot.
