Weekend Recap + LA Modern Quilt Guild

February 4, 2014

Cotton & Flax in progress

I spent a couple days recharging after shipping out my largest wholesale order ever on Friday. It was great to step away from work for a moment, work/life balance is something I’m trying to recalibrate in a thoughtful way this year. For me, that means more time spent with friends, and reading more of 1/3 of all the books I check out from the library… working on it!

Sew Modern in Los Angeles

Yesterday felt like a continuation of my fun-filled weekend: I had the opportunity to speak to the LA Modern Quilt Guild about how I run my business, and what it’s like to print and sew textile home goods from a cozy 10 x 6 foot studio space. The members were so welcoming, and it was a pleasure to chat with everyone about their own textile projects. Plus, the meeting was held at Sew Modern in West LA, a great little shop with a lovely selection of quilting cottons. I hope to return to the shop soon to add them to my ongoing series of favorite fabric shops in LA!

Don’t forget: I’m hosting a giveaway over on the Cotton & Flax Facebook page this week! Enter by 2/6 to win a pair of pillows from the shop!

Thank you, Los Angeles! (a Renegade Recap)

Renegade LA

Joanie and Nina

It’s been a busy few weeks! Eastside Handmade was lots of fun, and Renegade LA followed closely after. I had a couple helpers in my booth at Renegade LA, Nina and Joanie, who were utterly charming and helpful while I ran around the fair and connected with some of the other participating artists. Plus, I participated in a small pop-up market at one of my favorite fabric shops, Sew LA! It was a whirlwind week, and while I feel energized after spending so much time with friends and fellow makers, I have to admit that I’m ready to take some time to rest and recharge my creative batteries.

Renegade SF Snowflake 1

Not to worry, my vacation is still a little ways around the corner. Next up I have Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco! This is one of my favorite shows of the year – so many talented artists participating, plus it means a weekend of seeing old friends and visiting one of my favorite cities in the US. I hope you’ll join me this weekend and finish your holiday shopping at Renegade SF!

Recap: Custom Stationery Workshop at West Elm

August 21, 2013

workshop

I had so much fun teaching a custom stationery workshop at West Elm last night! I was blown away by the amazing designs my students came up with in just a couple of hours. So much creativity!

kit

Each attendee received a little gift bag filled with supplies – a small EZ-cut linoleum block, as well as paper for sketching, and multi-colored postcards for printing on. I provided all the carving tools and ink, and after a bit of sketching, everyone just went for it! Love to see creative bravery in action.

Thanks again to everyone who attended the workshop! I’m hoping to teach more workshops soon, so stay tuned.

Renegade Craft Fair

My trip to San Francisco was incredible. I always look forward to doing in-person sales in the bay area, but this trip was really exceptional. My customers in SF are so enthusiastic, and are always excited to talk about how my work will fit into their homes. Such a unique pleasure to spend a weekend interacting with so many creative people. Plus, I got to hang out with Keiko from Small Adventure and Elinor from Krank Press (two of my favorite LA makers) all weekend long!

Thanks to everyone who came out and said hello, it was great to meet you all!

Renegade Craft Fair is THIS WEEKEND in San Francisco!

July 26, 2013

SF RenegadeIf you live near San Francisco, come down to Fort Mason Center Festival Pavillion (Marina Blvd. and Buchanan St.) for Renegade Craft Fair this weekend! I’ll be there both Saturday and Sunday, from 11-7 each day, selling pillows, tea towels, coasters, postcards, and a few one of a kind items that will not be appearing online.

Thank you Los Angeles + Preparing for San Francisco

Renegade LA

Renegade LA was such a great show, thanks to everyone who came out to shop! It was really nice to have so many friends (and blog readers!) visit my booth and keep me company over the weekend. I met lots of creative folks, too, and while I wasn’t able to fully explore the entire show, I spotted quite a few new favorites as I browsed the aisles.

Renegade LA

If you visited Renegade LA, I hope you got a chance to try the Front Porch Pops, they were SO good! Wanted to try all the flavors, but stuck with Strawberry Lemonade, which was totally refreshing.

Now I’m preparing for Renegade San Francisco, which means I have a bit of printing and sewing to do… hope to share more behind the scenes photos on Instagram throughout the week, so check in there!
