Creative Thursday interview

January 8, 2016

Erin printing at Cotton & Flax

Back in 2014, Marisa Anne Cummings stopped by Cotton & Flax headquarters to interview me for her new series, Creative Thursday. I was one of her first interviews for the video podcast, and I’m excited to share that the series is now live.

I was nervous for this interview (one of my first on camera!), but the conversation that I had with Marisa was so engaging that the time flew by. In the interview, we chat about running a business, goal setting, creativity, and lots more. You even get a peek in my tiny studio to see me printing some tea towels. Check out my episode, and let me know what you think!

Recently at C&F – December Recap

January 1, 2016

Cotton & Flax tea towels

Phew, December flew by so quickly! The holiday season always passes in a flash, and I’d like to take a moment to thank you all again for the amazing support you showed me in 2015! It was a fun, creative, challenging year that kept me on my toes, and I’m truly grateful for all the encouragement you’ve shown me since founding Cotton & Flax a few years ago.

This month, Cotton & Flax was featured in a handful of great gift guides, including Reading My Tea Leaves and 3 Fish Studios. Between packing and shipping online orders, I was also out and about at a few in-person events, including Remodelista Market, and Emily McDowell’s studio sale in Atwater Village — so much fun! Thank you to everyone who came out to these markets to say hello, or pick up a tea towel, coaster set, or throw pillow as a gift!

Modern lavender sachets - Cotton & Flax

It was a fantastic year of growth at Cotton & Flax, and I had the opportunity to collaborate with a bunch of creative makers and artists in 2015. My collab with Minor Thread is ongoing — we just added a fresh batch of lavender sachets to the shop! Working with Scout Books was also a wonderful opportunity, and the seven patterned notebooks we created as a collaboration continue to be bestsellers in my shop. I also had the chance to partner up with one of my favorite makers for a second time: AHeirloom! We created a super festive cocktail set, and I believe there may just be one set left.

Not to turn my December recap into a 2015 recap, but it really was a wonderful year of creative collaboration for me. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention a couple other highlights of my year: collaborating on photoshoots with Laure Joliet and Jessica Comingore. I’m so lucky to call these artists my friends!

Cotton & Flax also added a new stockist in Hudson, MA in December: MOCA Gourmet. If you live in the area, stop by to shop our tabletop goods in person (and tell them we sent you). If you want to browse some of our other stockists, I’ve been doing a series of posts this year featuring all the gorgeous shops that carry Cotton & Flax goods. If you have ideas for shops that you think should carry Cotton & Flax items, reach out on Instagram or Twitter to let me know your favorite retail stores.

Looking forward to what 2016 will bring! Thanks again for visiting the blog, and for all your support.

November Recap

December 1, 2015

Cotton & Flax Stockist Vuela

What?! It’s December?! This year is flying by, so I’m taking time each month to recap all the amazing things happening at Cotton & Flax.

First, we added two new retail stockists: Cedar & Hyde in Boulder, and White Rabbit in Iowa City. Lots of our current brick and mortar stockists got fresh merchandise this season, so check out all our stockists to find places to Shop Small this season.

West Coast Craft in San Francisco

Cotton & Flax at Eastside Handmade

I had so much fun at Eastside Handmade and West Coast Craft! These seasonal events are a great opportunity for me to get out of the studio and share my work with a new audience. Even though the bigger shows can be exhausting, I love the experience of talking about my work with hundreds of creative, like-minded shoppers. It was great to test out a few new products, too, like these keyfobs made in collaboration with Deakin Handmade!

Sunset Magazine Gift Guide 2015

This month, Cotton & Flax got some pretty exciting press coverage: Sunset Magazine included our forest green confetti coasters in their gift guide! Our products were also featured in lots of online gift guides and round-ups, including Design Milk, Sweet Paul, and Ink+Smog Editions.

October Recap - Cotton & Flax

Can you believe it’s already November?! Where did this year go? I didn’t have much time to blog in October, so I thought I’d recap some of the highlights from the last few weeks.

Cotton & Flax was a design category finalist in Martha Stewart’s American Made awards!

The American Made awards wasn’t my only brush with Martha this month… I had the opportunity to share my advice for throwing an impromptu party, and how to keep your cool while you’re hosting a last-minute get together on Martha Stewart’s site.

As I was flipping through Rue Magazine last week, I was delighted to discover a Cotton & Flax Hills + Valleys pillow in Maia’s picks of the month. Plus, I can’t forget to include the gorgeous tour of Vane Broussard’s living room — featuring our zig zag pillows.

Cotton & Flax pillows in Land of Salt

Cotton & Flax also has two new retail stockists to announce this month: Arroyo General here in Los Angeles, and Land of Salt in Salt Lake City. I love working with small independent shops like these, and I hope to highlight more of my stockists soon, to give you ideas of where to shop small for the holidays.

As for the studio side, it’s been a busy month prepping to launch the Holiday Collection! Lots of time spent getting all the little details in place for the launch, so I’m extra glad to see the new pieces up in the shop. I’m looking forward to getting feedback on these new pieces during the next few weeks, as I participate in some pop-up shops and holiday markets. I’ll be sharing lots of updates on Instagram, so join me there if you want to see what’s going on day-to-day!
