Thank you Los Angeles + Preparing for San Francisco

July 24, 2013

Renegade LA

Renegade LA was such a great show, thanks to everyone who came out to shop! It was really nice to have so many friends (and blog readers!) visit my booth and keep me company over the weekend. I met lots of creative folks, too, and while I wasn’t able to fully explore the entire show, I spotted quite a few new favorites as I browsed the aisles.

Renegade LA

If you visited Renegade LA, I hope you got a chance to try the Front Porch Pops, they were SO good! Wanted to try all the flavors, but stuck with Strawberry Lemonade, which was totally refreshing.

Now I’m preparing for Renegade San Francisco, which means I have a bit of printing and sewing to do… hope to share more behind the scenes photos on Instagram throughout the week, so check in there!

Renegade Craft Fair is THIS WEEKEND in Los Angeles!

July 19, 2013

LA RenegadeIf you live near Los Angeles, come down to Los Angeles State Historic Park (1245 N. Spring St.) for Renegade Craft Fair this weekend! I’ll be there both Saturday and Sunday, from 11-7 each day, selling pillows, tea towels, coasters, postcards, and a few one of a kind items that will not be appearing online.

LA Renegade mapCome walk around and see what LA’s makers have to offer! There will be food trucks, too, so you can make an afternoon of it. Don’t forget to stop by and say hello, I’m at booth #171 (along with Small Adventure!)

Recently at Cotton & Flax HQ

June 12, 2013

Cotton & Flax HQI’ve been blogging a bit less frequently lately, as I’ve been working hard to build up my inventory for upcoming summer sales and in person shows here in California. I’ll be selling my work at Renegade Craft Fair in LA and San Francisco the last two weekends in July, so I’m spending every free moment printing, sewing, and designing new products for later this year.

If you want more frequent updates, you can follow Cotton & Flax on Instagram, I post lots of behind the scenes photos from Cotton & Flax Headquarters, plus the occasional photo of Frida, my adorable cat (and Cotton & Flax’s CFO… hah!)

Eastside Handmade this weekend!

April 10, 2013

eastside handmade

I just got word of an impromptu handmade marketplace popping up on Saturday, and decided to take part. I’ll be selling pillows, tea towels, coasters, and postcards at Eastside Handmade from 11-5 this Saturday. The market is taking place at Shopclass, a great new vintage home decor shop in Highland Park. They have a surprisingly affordable collection of furniture and home decor, so stop by if you live in LA, and check out the shop and the handmade pop-up market!

Just a sample of what you’ll find at Eastside Handmade this Saturday:

  1. Pillows from Cotton & Flax
  2. Stationery and Illustrations from Small Adventure
  3. Handmade Ties from Scout Ties
  4. One of a Kind Ceramics from A Question of Eagles

Design Camp with AB Chao

March 28, 2013

design camp

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending AB Chao’s Design Camp here in LA! Design Camp is a weekend interior design workshop with decorator + stylist AB Chao. At Camp you learn everything from interior design basics to magazine-worthy styling; how to apply what you’ve learned to your own space; and insider tips on making your place a beautiful, happy place to be.

Design Camp

(AB’s photo from Design Camp NYC)

Design Camp was lots of fun, and a big motivator to put more thought into the layout and decor in our apartment. We’ve been living in our current space for over two years now, and it’s never felt quite finished, so I’ve been looking for ways to feel more at home in our apartment.

My number one lesson from Design Camp: draw a layout of your home to see the space as it really is. I love to rearrange the furniture in our house, but I would often find that things didn’t quite fit right once I’d finished moving them around. Drawing the floor plan of our apartment on graph paper helped me to visualize the different arrangements we could achieve before lugging the sofa across the apartment.

(I contributed Cotton & Flax postcard sets to the goodie bags each attendee received)

AB posted a recap of LA Design Camp, in case you’re curious about attending when Design Camp visits your hometown! While my experience was a little less glamorous (since I was helping out as an intern), I learned some amazing interior design tips I’ll be applying to my own home in the weeks to come. Maybe I’ll even share some before/after photos here on the blog!

Holiday Markets

December 18, 2012

Cotton & Flax at Renegade Craft Fair

I’m back from our trip to San Francisco for Renegade Craft Fair’s 4th annual Holiday Market! It was an amazing show, and I met so many wonderful people last weekend. It’s really incredible to spend entire weekends getting to talk to people about my work, it’s a welcome change from working alone in my home studio most of the time.

I’ll be honest though: I’m exhausted! We had to cut our trip to SF very short, and ended up driving back to LA right after the end of the show… I spent most of Monday resting, and packing up online orders. I needed a long nap like nobody’s business!

Now all that’s left is to add the remaining merchandise back to my online shop, and begin planning for 2013! While I feel that I’ve made some big strides with Cotton & Flax this year, there is so much more I want to make next year, and even a few collaborations I’d like to pursue. So even though the craft fair mayhem is over, I’ll be keeping busy here at home, setting things in motion for the year to come.

Thanks so much to everyone who stopped by my booths at Unique LA, Renegade LA, and Renegade SF. You make this all possible!
