Interior Design Inspiration – Emily Henderson

February 2, 2019

Interior Design Inspiration from Emily Henderson - Traditional Modern Home in Portland

It’s always such a treat to see how interior designers style my pieces in their client’s homes, and this beauty is no exception! Emily Henderson featured Cotton & Flax throw pillows in her gorgeous Portland House project, specifically in the dreamy media room, which included a built in wet bar and a walnut ping pong table with a leather net (!!!). My pillow added a pop of modern pattern to the gorgeous linen sofa, such an inviting spot to curl up and watch Netflix for an hour or three.

I love the pallette that Emily chose for this space. Golden yellow is one of my all time favorite colors (I find it to be a classic color that doesn’t look dated), and combined with gorgeous grey blues it just sings.

Interior Portraits - best home decor book of 2018

Are you feeling screen fatigue? I’ve been exhausted by social media lately, so I’ve been returning to one of my favorite analog sources of inspiration: books! It’s been a couple years since I rounded up my favorite books about home decor, architecture, and minimalist living — my last guide was back in 2016. Lots of great titles have come out since then, plenty of options if you’re looking for inspiration beyond Pinterest and Instagram.

Here are my picks for best interior design books from 2017 and 2018.

Grace Bonney’s custom Arroyo bench

October 8, 2018

Modern bench cushion - Design*SpongeCreative updates to vintage pieces can bring new life to a home. Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge used Arroyo fabric to create a beautiful custom cushion for her antique bench, which brings a fun modern accent to a more traditional space.

In her post about the project, Grace mentions that she and her wife Julia were excited to update their porch and create an inviting space for dinners together.

A little DIY and $100 in a few extra pieces and Julia and I updated our front porch and turned it into a space that makes us excited to eat outside and soak up the summer… I love when an afternoon project turns a space you weren’t using into one you now can’t wait to use.

I love that my fabric played a small part in creating this charming space.

Inspired to create something with my fabrics? Find Arroyo in a fabric store near you!

Minimalist Small Space Living

February 14, 2018

Minimalist Small Space livingThis week I was completely mesmerized as I read about the Mayes family and their unique home. This family of six lives within 250 sq ft inside a converted school bus, and the interior is unbelievably beautiful! I was delighted to see that they own a couple Cotton & Flax pieces, too, which just adds to the minimalist charm of their cozy living quarters.

Small Space living roomI spy a Grid tea towel on their oven, and a Hills + Valleys pillow on the sofa!

See the whole tour of their home on Apartment Therapy!

New Pillow Designs Debut at ICFF

May 22, 2017

New pillows from Cotton & Flax - ICFF 2017 Debut I have two new pillow designs debuting this week at ICFF in New York, as part of an exhibition called Make Use, which was co-curated by JOIN Design and Rejuvenation. This exhibition is part of NYCxDesign, a multi-week celebration of global design that takes place yearly in New York.

Make Use - Join Design's curated exhibition at ICFF 2017Make Use will debut a new collection of objects for the home from 14 West Coast-based studios. Our design philosophy for this collection was rooted in simple, natural materials, and designs that celebrate the maker’s hand, and honor the everyday. My new designs, a pair of wool felt pillows, sewn in a patchwork design from scraps of felt that I had saved from other projects, combines my design values of high-quality materials and a no-waste studio environment.

I’m delighted to be featured in an exhibition that celebrates straightforward design and the beauty in utility associated with West Coast Craftsmanship. If you’re in New York for ICFF, stop by booth #233 and check out my new work!
