Creative conversations on Love to Sew

March 20, 2018

Erin Dollar's interview on Love to Sew podcastI recently had a really interesting conversation about creativity and sewing with Helen Wilkinson and Caroline Somos on the Love to Sew podcast! It was really fun to chat with two makers who are really passionate about sewing, and share some of the humbling experiences I’ve had since releasing my first fabric collection with Robert Kaufman.

My episode debuted this morning ⏤ you can listen to the episode and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes.

Fabric Designers – Names to Know

March 15, 2018

Carolyn Friedlander - Carkai fabric swatchesThe fabric industry can feel a little opaque sometimes. I get lots of emails from textile design students who are looking for advice, and I totally relate to that thirst for knowledge. There’s tons of info out there about talented fabric designers, but if you don’t know any famous textile designers’ names, it can be tough to know where to start.

I put together a list of my favorite contemporary textile designers, so that an artist interested in becoming a textile designer, or looking to learn how to become a fabric designer will find some inspiration. While some of these fabric designers’ names might not be the most recognizable in the textile industry, they’re certainly up-and-coming designers to watch out for. The textile designers’ websites are linked, so you can check out more of their work, and get inspired to sew!…

Floral Pattern iPhone Wallpaper

March 1, 2018

Dark floral iPhone wallpaperToday I’ve got a new phone wallpaper for you, to give your screen a fresh look! I’ve been doing a ton of drawing and painting lately, and I’ve been attempting some floral patterns for the first time. Way out of my comfort zone, which might be why I painted them in this dark palette. I like this wallpaper because it feels restful on my eyes when I turn on my phone — sometimes I need a break from bright colors.

Download the floral phone wallpaper

To Download: Click the link above and it will take you directly to the image. If you are on your phone, you can simply save the image to your phone, and set it as your wallpaper in the settings area of your phone.

These wallpapers should work for many phones, not just the iPhone (although it may get cropped depending on the screen size). You can always browse our other free wallpapers from previous months, too!

February Inspiration

February 26, 2018

Bright beautiful kitchen - Sonoma County house tourFebruary has been a busy month already, as I’ve been diving into some spring cleaning projects at home, and in the studio. This gorgeous kitchen from a house tour on Coco + Kelley caught my eye… The light! Those beautiful pots! The perfect linen towel near the stove!

Here are a few more things that have my brain buzzing this month:

I was a guest on the Right After Breakfast podcast, and our conversation was a good one. We talked about the pull of social media, and how it can derail creative progress.

Have you ever tried Apartment Therapy’s January Cure? It’s turned into a February Cure for me, since January was filled with tons of travel. I love their daily assignments, it helps keep me on track with my spring cleaning goals.

I’ve been sharing highlights from QuiltCon on Instagram Stories, if you’re curious!

Don’t miss our lavender sachet sale! There are just a handful left, and they’ll be retired after this season.

Minimalist Small Space Living

February 14, 2018

Minimalist Small Space livingThis week I was completely mesmerized as I read about the Mayes family and their unique home. This family of six lives within 250 sq ft inside a converted school bus, and the interior is unbelievably beautiful! I was delighted to see that they own a couple Cotton & Flax pieces, too, which just adds to the minimalist charm of their cozy living quarters.

Small Space living roomI spy a Grid tea towel on their oven, and a Hills + Valleys pillow on the sofa!

See the whole tour of their home on Apartment Therapy!
