See me on Creative Thursday

November 18, 2014

Cotton & Flax on Creative Thursday

There’s a first time for everything: this week, a film crew came to visit Cotton & Flax HQ to record an interview for Creative Thursday! I was so nervous (and I spent a lot of time tidying the studio to prepare), but the conversation I had with the Creative Thursday’s creator, Marisa, was really honest and fun! We talked for over an hour about what it’s like to run a creative business, and how to handle stress as a solo entrepreneur.

The video will be available to watch early in 2015! I’ll be sure to share it here when it’s available.

Cotton & Flax, Jungalow Style!

September 9, 2014

Justina for Cotton & Flax 2

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that I spent Saturday morning with stylist Justina Blakeney, shooting some photos of Cotton & Flax goods in her signature Jungalow style. I loved spending time with Justina, as well as talented photographer Dabito, and I think they captured my work in a way I’d never have been able to do on my own. This pair knows color and pattern like nobody’s business!

Most of all, it’s always fun to collaborate with friends. So grateful to Justina and Dabito for taking the time to make my work look so awesome!

Cotton & Flax for CB2

February 27, 2014

Cotton & Flax plus tea towels for CB2

Remember how things got a bit quiet here on the blog in January? I was working on an exciting wholesale order: a selection of two of my favorite tea towels made for CB2! Check out the navy plus and the linen plus tea towels on the CB2 website (they should be in stores in March!)

Cb2 Santa Monica and CB2 SOHO

Have you shopped at CB2 before? I think of it as the quirky younger sister of Crate and Barrel. I am thrilled to be part of a collection of handmade goods being sold at all CB2 stores this season, which was curated by the folks at Renegade Craft Fair!

Both tea towels are printed with my popular “plus” pattern, and lest you forget, these were all screenprinted by hand. Each tea towel was sewn in my studio, and printed by yours truly.

I have to admit, I’m excited to see Cotton & Flax products on the glossy page of a CB2 catalog. If you live nearby one of their stores, stop by CB2 and check out the collection, and tell me what you think! I hope you love the handmade collection as much as I do, because if it sells out, I think it sends a signal to larger retailers that working with small domestic manufacturers and indie brands is a worthwhile venture!

Cotton & Flax for One Kings Lane

September 30, 2013

Cotton & Flax for One Kings Lane

Have you seen the Artisanal sales over on One Kings Lane? They’ve been featuring some awesome makers: beautiful indigo dyed textiles from Ermie, unique hand-built ceramics from Ben Medansky, and the my favorite candles from Oui. I’m excited to announce that the Cotton & Flax Artisanal sale for One Kings Lane starts today at 6pm!

Cotton & Flax patchwork pillow

I created five one-of-a-kind patchwork pillows for this sale, so if you’ve been waiting for a chance to buy one, hurry on over! If they sell well with this OKL sale, I’ll make a few more to have in the shop for the holiday season.

It’s always nice to have my work displayed alongside other talented artisans. Handmade items make your home special, and I am glad to see that companies like OKL are highlighting the value of handmade home goods. The sale runs until October 4th, so check out the sale while you can!

Art Print collaboration with Schoolhouse Electric

September 16, 2013

Schoolhouse Electric Fall

Before I founded Cotton & Flax, I worked primarily as a fine artist, selling my prints, drawings, and collages online under my full name, Erin Dollar. Since then, Cotton & Flax has taken up most of my free time, and I haven’t released new artwork for sale since 2011. This week, I can finally share an awesome collaboration I did with Schoolhouse Electric, a fantastic lighting and home decor company based in my hometown, Portland, Oregon. They just released their new Fall catalog today, and guess who has a print featured in their new collection?

Underground - Erin Dollar

This is an image I created back in 2011, when I was exploring imagery surrounding old stratigraphic charts, and the mysteries of what’s buried underground. You can see that I was also developing some patterns in this image, as each layer features a different tone and pattern.

Schoolhouse Electric

If you live in Portland, stop by the Schoolhouse Electric showroom to see all the art they’ve added to their collection. I am excited to be featured among talented artists like Becca Stadtlander and Shanna Murray! If you don’t live near Portland, you can check out all their new art offerings online!

May 8, 2013

cotton & flax // pennyweight

I was surprised to find that there are still a few of my limited edition tea towels left in the Pennyweight Goods shop! Go snatch one up, once they’re gone, I won’t be reprinting them!
