Spring at Cotton & Flax

January 11, 2019

Cotton & Flax - home decor shop in San Diego

We’re making plans for Spring at our retail shop in San Diego! Lots of fun creative workshops coming up in January and February, including our popular block printing on fabric class. If you can’t make it to class, don’t worry — we offer an online screenprinting class too!

Lots of new products have arrived this month, so there’s lots to discover when you come. You’ll find new decor pieces from Fruitsuper, beautiful minimalist ceramics from Clay + Craft, and there’s tons of cutting boards from San Diego woodworkers Aroara.

Ready to learn how to screenprint?

December 28, 2018

Learn how to Screen PrintIt’s been two years since I taught my Screenprinting Class for CreativeLive, and it’s been amazing to see positive reviews of the class, and to hear from students who are diving in to their first screenprinting projects. I’m not teaching any in-person screenprinting workshops in 2019, but this class is always available for those of you who’ve been curious about how I create Cotton & Flax products.

I love ringing in the new year by exploring new creative projects! My introductory-level class is a perfect place to start if you’ve never tried screenprinting before, or if you need a refresher on the basics of how to get started. I walk you through all the steps of creating screen prints from home, and share my tips and tricks for creating amazing prints in small spaces. It’s not as tough as you’d think!

Erin Dollar screenprintingScreen printing is a great way to see your designs come to life as you apply them to paper, fabric, or other surfaces. It’s a medium that has tons of practical uses, and adds a dynamic edge to your creative toolkit. Sign up for my screen printing class on CreativeLive, and enjoy anytime access to the full class, so you can learn at your own pace!

While She Naps – Podcast Interview

December 6, 2018

Cotton & Flax retail shopI was honored to be interviewed by Abby Glassenberg for her podcast this month! Abby is a pillar of the craft community, and I have learned so much from her over the years. It was a treat to have our conversation recorded — we talked about the challenges of growing and scaling a business, and what it was like to shift gears away from wholesale in order to open the retail shop and expand my licensing career. You can listen to the full episode here!

Makers Arcade in San Diego

December 3, 2018

Cotton & Flax - makers arcade boothThis Saturday, December 8th, I’ll be returning to Makers Arcade for my second holiday show. This market is one of the best places to shop San Diego’s artists and makers, and enjoy drinks and snacks from local favorite restaurants. A great opportunity to finish your holiday shopping, and support local businesses all at once!

The Cotton & Flax shop on Adams ave will be closed on Saturday while I’m at the show, but if you’re in San Diego, stop by the Port Pavillion and say hello!

Shop Small with Uncommon San Diego

November 23, 2018

Shopping small with Uncommon San Diego

This season has been a fun one for me at Cotton & Flax. Opening my new retail shop and studio has brought so many new friendly people into my life, and offered me the opportunity to return to teaching workshops, one of the most enjoyable parts of my work as an artist.

In the spirit of inspiring San Diegans to shop local and explore their community, I created Uncommon San Diego, a holiday shopping adventure in the spirit of Small Business Saturday and Little Boxes. If you’ll be doing your holiday shopping in San Diego this year, I hope you’ll stop by any of the amazing retail shops on our curated map, and support the indie businesses that make this city unique.

Happy holidays, and thanks for shopping small!
